The Very Group endorses ILO Covid-19: Global garment industry call to action
May 21, 2020
The Very Group has announced its support for the ILO global garment industry call to action, which aims to bring together actors from across the sector to help manufacturers survive the economic disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and protect garment workers’ income, health and employment.
Carly Bilsbrough, head of CSR at The Very Group, said: “This ILO-led initiative will be hugely important for the garment industry during the current crisis and into the future. Tackling these issues requires a collaborative approach. Working together as employers, federations, trade unions, suppliers and brands will help us to develop sustainable long-term solutions supporting both manufacturers and workers in our supply chains.”
The rapid spread of Covid-19 has led to unprecedented challenges for communities throughout the world, particularly those in garment producing countries where social protection measures may be weak. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, our global CSR teams have been working in partnership with suppliers to ensure workers are being treated fairly, and that their human rights and freedoms are respected. We are monitoring the situation in each country closely and working with our factories to support the creation of safe working environments.
