10 young people Kickstart careers at Very after Government scheme success

April 4, 2022

  • 10 young people secure permanent roles after excelling during Kickstart placements
  • Seven more 'Kickstarters' join the business

The Very Group, which operates digital retailer Very.co.uk, has created permanent roles for 10 young people who excelled after joining the business through the Government’s Kickstart scheme, which improves opportunities for young people at risk of long-term unemployment.

Having delivered brilliant results during their placements, which began in summer 2021, seven ‘Kickstarters’ have become automation assistants at Skygate, the retailer’s state-of-the-art fulfilment centre in the East Midlands. Three more have joined the tech and customer care teams at Very’s headquarters in Liverpool.

Building on the success of the scheme to date, Very has this week welcomed e new Kickstarters to its fulfilment team. The retailer will supplement their Government-funded wages and provide each young person with an individual assessment of requirements, a tailored training schedule, and support from their line managers, a personal mentor and a Very buddy.

Through Very’s partnership with The Prince’s Trust, the Kickstarters will have access to employability webinars, one-to-one support, inspirational talks from Prince’s Trust Young Ambassadors and help with next steps, post-placement. They can also take advantage of a raft of Very benefits, such as its employee discount and on-site fitness and wellbeing facilities, including a gym.

Sarah Willett, chief people officer at The Very Group, said: “I am so pleased and proud to be welcoming these fantastic young people to the Very team on a permanent basis. From day one, they impressed us with their energy and willingness to learn and I know they will continue to shine in their new roles.

“I’m also excited to meet our new group of Kickstarters at Skygate and follow their achievements over the coming months. We’re passionate about investing in early talent as we know that the right opportunities at a young age can totally transform lives and careers.”
